Livy’s is an exciting new social club-style restaurant in Johannesburg that embraces a ‘sip, savour and socialise’ ethos. This all-day bistro and bar bring a fresh twist to ‘social club’ with pop art cocktails and a menu that screams fun. Livy’s is the brainchild of the talented duo that masterminded popular haunts, Babylon and The Greenhouse.
You’ll find them in the heart of Rosebank, just a stone’s throw from office parks making it perfect for mid-week sundowners and a weekend night out.
What’s so different about Livy’s?
The effortlessly elegant interiors
Livy’s retains the architectural beauty of the grand old house with its arches, floors, and staircase. The French casual-inspired decor, coupled with its striking hot pink exterior and pop art elements, transports you to a Carrie Bradshaw-esque summer in the Hamptons. The designer drew inspiration from his travels and has crafted a design that’s nothing short of extraordinary.
Something new for the more mature diner
This all-day restaurant in Johannesburg hopes to court a diverse mix of audiences while primarily catering to those in the 40+ age gap. The idea is to offer a refreshing alternative for those who prefer high-energy sounds that set the mood while still being able to hold a conversation.
The team at Livy’ss have invested in state-of-the-art Function 1 sound which delivers crystal-clear sound without the teeth-chattering base. On Saturdays and Sundays, well-known DJs will keep the vibe lively.
‘We saw a gap in the market for the over-40 crowd who still want to dress up and hit the town somewhere with a fabulous atmosphere just not at 11pm!,’ explains Brad Cilliers, co-owner of Livy’s. ‘That’s what Livy’s is all about – an inclusive space where everyone can unwind, enjoy fantastic food, and have a memorable time. Of course, the younger crowd are also catered for, but Livy’s would probably be the pre-cursor to their night-clubbing until the sun comes up.”
Fine food and drink from the freshest talent
Livy’s is led by Chef Tyron Gentry, who boasts an impressive background having worked at JAN in France and under Luke Dale Roberts at Shortmarket Club in Rosebank. His menu for Livy’s is a testament to his artistry, featuring approachable yet quality dishes from the crispy perfection of Arancini to the comforting warmth of coal-fired Soup, and the savoury delights of crispy calamari and beef carpaccio. Livy’s culinary offerings are intended to gratify and be shared.
The menu features a selection of shared plates as well as salads, hearty sandwiches, and a signature grill with sumptuous choices like Chalmar beef fillet and Norwegian salmon. To round off, indulge in delightful desserts such as crème brûlée and homemade gelato.
