The trendy Waterfall precinct is getting a new trump card with the opening of Math Restaurant in May 2024. Go for sophisticated breakfast, lunch, and dinner meetings where modern continental cuisine is served with class.
Founder Puleng Mathabatha draws inspiration from his parents’ thriving hardware store that served as a meeting place in the township of Lebowakgomo. The name ‘Math’ represents the first four letters of his family’s surname.
Central to the restaurant is a circular communal table where guests can gather, along with booth-style seats for those cosy meetups. Interiors are inviting with a blend of modern elegance with touches of classic charm, while the walls are adorned with a large and impactful mural that reflects the core values of the space.
What’s on the menu at Math Restaurant
The menu at Math Restaurant stays faithful to dishes inspired by Puleng’s own culinary journey from the streets of New York City to the humble home-cooked favourites that many South Africans know. From comfort classics to prawn toast and Tuscan chicken pasta to a stuffed aubergine with lentils and spicy tomato sauce, there’s bound to be something that will tickle your fancy. There’s a special menu for brunch with both light and substantial dishes such as Eggs Benedict, waffles and chicken, and croque monsieur amongst others.
A wine list with Cape wines and luxury bubbles is also on offer, as well as a cocktail menu with inventive concoctions whipped up by the mixology team.
