MusicEx in Johannesburg: Workshops, Demos, and the Biggest Names in South African Music

MusicEx is a festival, exhibition, and expo that offers Joburgers the chance to explore everything about South African music and music lifestyle. There are ample opportunities to network and learn from the experts, making this event a must-attend for all music enthusiasts.

MusicEx runs at Gallagher Convention Centre from 26 to 28 July and includes performances by top South African acts, an exhibition space showcasing the best music-lifestyle suppliers, and a range of informative edutainment workshops.

Some of the biggest artists and institutions are involved in MusicEx, such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, YFM, SAMPRA, David Gresham Records, and other industry leaders. Famous South African makeup brand owner Willem Botha provides a stage makeup masterclass, too. Here’s what you can look forward to.

Interesting workshops and talks to diarise

A range of informative and highly engaging workshops form part of the programme. These sessions provide artists with insights and information on how to get a start in the South African music industry.

Featuring workshops, panel discussions and more, MusicEx is a fun and interactive way for young people to learn about the various professions within the music industry and meet one-on-one with established artists and industry leaders to receive invaluable advice.

Intimate music experiences in the lounge area

The Music Lounge is an immersive music experience in an intimate and beautiful space. Get up close and personal with popular artists and enjoy food and drink from the lounge bar. Access to the Music Lounge is included in the MusicEx general ticket price.

Massive festival feels on the Main Stage

MusicEx will feature an indoor live music experience that will excite music lovers across different genres. You can look forward to a show list of homegrown South African talent covering a range of music genres.

Keep an eye out for buskers in Festival Lane, an intimate “unplugged” experience in the music lounge, big names on the main stage and the added excitement of local talent battling it out for big cash prizes. Enjoy drinks and delicious food while taking in all the entertainment.

Access to the Main Stage is included in the MusicEx general ticket price.
