New Restaurants in Johannesburg to Book Now

Diners are in luck, with quite a few new restaurants in Johannesburg bringing a fresh edge to the city’s culinary landscape. From a new fine dining establishment centred around the beauty of salt, to second homes for two of Joburg’s fave spots, and a Cape Town pizza joint taking up space in the City of Gold, a lot is happening right now.  So here’s our recap of the new openings we’re excited about.

The Thai Table 789

The Thai Table – 789 brings a bold new take on communal dining to Johannesburg’s growing restaurant scene, introducing the energy and flavour-driven culture of Bangkok street dining to Oxford Parks in Rosebank. Rather than leaning into minimalist fine dining trends, the restaurant centres the experience around shared plates, layered flavours and a lively social atmosphere inspired by Thailand’s long-standing table-sharing traditions.

The menu moves between fragrant curries, papaya salads, wok-fried noodles, satays and rich coconut-based soups, with dishes designed to be ordered collectively and passed around the table.

Signature flavours of chilli, lime, fish sauce, tamarind and fresh herbs run throughout the offering, while the interiors balance contemporary design with warmer, moodier textures that feel more transportive than themed.

Where: Oxford Parks, 199 Oxford Rd, Rosebank, Randburg
