New! Pick your own sunflowers

While best known for its strawberries, the farm’s sunflower fields are a seasonal spectacle in their own right. During sunflower picking season, The Strawberry Farm opens rows of towering golden blooms, soaking up the colour, fresh air and unmistakable sense of countryside calm. It’s a simple, joyful experience that celebrates the beauty of flowers grown slowly and naturally, in tune with the land.

Guests can pick their own sunflowers directly from the fields, creating personalised bunches to take home, photograph or gift. Much like the strawberry picking experience, there’s no rush or rigid structure — just open space, blue skies and the pleasure of choosing your own blooms. The fields are part of a working farm, so expect a little dust or mud depending on the weather, and dress accordingly.

Strawberry picking season invites Joburgers to slow down and reconnect with the simple pleasures of farm life. Open to the public every Saturday and Sunday, this relaxed, come-as-you-are experience allows visitors to wander the fields at their own pace, picking and eating sun-warmed, organic strawberries straight from the plant. Grown without herbicides, pesticides or artificial fertilisers, the fruit is sweet, fresh and best enjoyed exactly where it grows.

The experience at The Strawberry Farm is deliberately unpolished and authentic. Expect muddy boots after rain, a bit of dirt under your nails and the kind of country charm that comes with a working farm. Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets and spend the day by the dams, returning to the fields as often as they like. Note that no pets are allowed as it’s a working farm.
