Found on the rooftop of The Leonardo in Sandton, Alto234 is the highest urban bar in Africa. The name stems from the Latin word, Alto, meaning height and 234 references how tall it stands in metres. With a 360-degree view of Johannesburg and its secret jungle, the city of Jozi has never seemed so vast and breathtakingly picturesque.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, 12:30pm – 11pm, Alto234 offers a variety of experiences throughout the day. Each one of these experiences is held at different times to ensure guests book and appreciate the Johannesburg skyline at their leisure. From Afternoon, to Sunset and Night Lights experiences, there are many options for guests to enjoy the view before digging into the delicious premium menu prepared by AURUM Restaurant.
Afternoon experiences
The Afternoon Experiences are from 1pm to 4pm. This is a prime opportunity to relax and take in the view of the city below to see the hustle and bustle from a different point of view.

The Night Light Experiences run from 7pm to 11pm and give guests an unforgettable view of the city lights. Imagine a vast space of flickering lights portraying shimmering flowers in what is actually a city. The Night Light Experience is the epitome of romance in the city.

Relaxing and lounging around in the sun can really work up an appetite. So, for the peckish guests in need of sustenance, a luxury tapas menu with a range of bespoke snacks is available. Many of these delicacies have been paired with the bar menu.
Regarding the beverages on offer, the wine list boasts some of the best international wines. There is also a fully stocked bar of exclusively premium spirits. These include some of the rarest spirits you’ll ever come across. Guests can also expect to find the finest spirits brought to life in the exquisite cocktails and signature mixes on offer.
Designed by Varoom Interiors, the venue features internal and external seating for guests. Alto234 can accommodate up to 100 people across seven seating areas throughout the venue. So, without further ado, engage in a memorable experience as you partake of the luxurious tapas, snacks, and signature cocktails whilst acknowledging the beauty found in the panoramic view of the city of gold.
