4. Montecasino Bird Gardens
The bird and wildlife park at Montecasino is a perfect place for a memorable family outing in Johannesburg. Wander along enchanted garden walkways and marvel at the variety of colourful birds, mammals, reptiles and unusual animals from around the world.

8. Friends of Kloofendal guided nature walks
Friends of Kloofendal have increased their popular walks and excursions at Kloofendal Nature Reserve to help keen hikers and nature lovers explore our environment and its weird and wonderful creatures.
A number of walks are scheduled each weekend where hikers can get an opportunity to ask questions on the subjects of venomous animals, envenomation, conservation, and our collective values and beliefs towards venomous animals.
Karin Spottiswoode spotlights some of our many indigenous plants and interesting facts about them, as well as a variety of alien invasive species of plants that are a threat to indigenous plants for the Conservation Leadership Walk. 10. Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary
The Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary is a haven for up to 93 loving donkeys, most of which have been rescued from illegal skin trade and slaughter. Visitors to the sanctuary are able to interact with these gentle, often underestimated creatures. You can spend time with the donkeys and pet, brush or even feed them healthy donkey treats available for purchase from the sanctuary.

13. Acrobranch
Acrobranch is a Tree-top experience dedicated to offering children and adults alike a unique adventure as they move from tree to tree in lush, green forests. Obstacles consist of awesome tree-top high ropes and tricky crossings (with ladders, tunnels, walkways and bridges).
They also offer spectacular zip lines to top it off all aerial adventurists are strapped securely to two carabiners – offering both security from injury or harm and the advantage of being able to test one’s strengths without the fear of falling. Joburg entrepreneurs continue to think out of the box when it comes to repurposing urban spaces for unique experiences, Air360’s skate park on the rooftop of Eastgate Shopping Centre in Bedfordview is proof.
The space is safe with a range of exciting, action-packed activities for adults and youth. From a stunning pump track, various ramps, and a skate shop, there’s something for skateboarders and bike riders of all levels.

15. The Bioscope
Previously based in Maboneng, The Bioscope is Joburg’s very own independent cinema currently situated at 44 Stanley. Watch a range of curated cult classics, local film productions, and new releases at this intimate cinema.
The Bioscope isn’t limited to one purpose though. It also acts as a stage for stand-up comedians every Sunday night from 6:30pm, live music, and inspirational or educational talks. 17. Wine tasting at Gerakaris Family Wines
Founded in 2009 by Kath Gerakaris, this boutique winery sources its grapes from a farm in the Swartland, Western Cape, and then completes the wine-making process in Craighall Park.
The winery focuses on five types of wines. These are two Chenin Blancs and three Syrahs. Guests can taste these five wines on their visit to the Gerakaris Family Wine Farm for as little as R100 per person. In addition to the tastings, the guests are served cheeseboard platters constructed to complement the wines and accent the flavours. The cheeseboard platters also serve as a showcase for four local cheese producers and a bowl of Cape Olives to boot.
The venue houses a small garden to ensure a cosy and intimate setting. So, we highly recommend that visitors book in advance to claim their space and avoid looking silly in front of their dates.
