To My Sisters Podcast

To My Sisters Podcast Speaks on Wellness and Personal Growth in South Africa

To My Sisters is a popular podcast hosted by Courtney Daniella Boateng and Renée Kapuku, two dynamic British women dedicated to shaping sisterhood and personal growth for modern women. The duo take on topics related to wellness, self-improvement, career, relationships, and mental health, all with an engaging and heartfelt approach.

The podcast is both insightful and relatable, making it a go-to for those looking to navigate life with wisdom and confidence. We had a short chat with Courtney and Renee during their recent South African tour to celebrate International Women’s Month 2025 with Spotify:

Tell us a bit about the concept of To My Sisters, what is your mission?

At heart, To My Sisters is the fast-growing digital sisterhood founded to help women across the world build authentic friendships and community to support their wellness, growth and development. Put simply – we serve women. We exist to change the world for women, by changing the world of women.

Through radically real conversation, platonic relational investment, and community fundraising, our purpose is to help address the biggest issues facing women, by creating spaces for women to heal before sending them into the world to help other women.

To My Sisters started as a podcast as we recognised the need for deep connection through comprehensive conversation, in a way that would be accessible to all women. Whether you are driving, cleaning, resting, dancing – To My Sisters is the soundtrack to the modern woman interested in glowing and growing.

Are you two related, how did you meet?

Not related but we may as well be! We’ve been friends for about 17 years now – we met in secondary school and shared many of the same subjects. We have been friends ever since.

When did To My Sisters launch, and what were some of the initial challenges to get it up and running?

The podcast launched in 2020 in the heat of the COVID pandemic. The podcast and organisation were completely bootstrapped which was hard – we invested our own money into some pretty basic microphones and recorded in Courtney’s bedroom. For our launch, we actually had some of our own community and female friends support us with a photoshoot, and pretty much took it from there. We were (and in many ways still are) a two-person team!

The podcast is aimed at women who are interested in building authentic, platonic, lifelong friendships. Our sisterhood is diverse, multicultural and multigenerational.

We joined for the live episode recording as part of your South African tour and saw the engaged community you’ve nurtured from afar. You’ve carved a beautiful and safe space for women to confront experiences that very few allow. Was that conscious, are you still amazed at your impact, and did you always set out to be change agents?

There’s a bit of both – when we first started thinking about creating the podcast, we knew that the podcast would only be the start. We care deeply about women and the human experience of women, and so we have an expansive vision of ‘changing the world for women’ which we were intentional about from the genesis of To My Sisters. We always desired international trips, meaningful events, purposeful products and philanthropy to transform women’s lives. We always desired to create spaces to have truly authentic, challenging and transformative conversations where women could bring all parts of themselves, whole or broken.  It was always more than a podcast to us – TMS really is a movement.

What was surprising was the speed coupled with the enthusiasm we were met with once we launched. It meant that we were able to scale more quickly than we could have dreamed. By the first month, we already had 10,000+ listeners globally and a substantial following on social media. Our community expanded to include women from the UK, USA, and South Africa as our top community hubs. We had the vision for change from the beginning, but seeing it come to life on a daily basis is more than we could have hoped for.

A recurring reference throughout your podcasts is the ‘seasons’ concept, can you explain what you mean by that?

For many women, we are confronted with the pressure to remain at the apex, to aspire towards being a superhuman. Whether it is the top of our game, the perfect wife, the best sister, the incredible mother. We are taught to balance everything all at once. Much like nature, the human experience is much more nuanced and ‘seasonal’. We go through phases and cycles in life, some good, some bad, but all must be embraced.

Our focus on ‘seasons’ is all about helping women embrace the seasonality in their own lives, and shed the pressure of having to be static, perfect and not present. We want women to embrace all parts of themselves, in the past, the present and the future – and fully embrace the different ‘seasons’ they go through.

Any proud moments throughout the run of TMS, and what inspired the two of you to write the book?

Our proud moments have included hosting a 1200+ sold-out live show in London and having our first sold-out international live show in Johannesburg 3 months later. We are also extremely proud of our community fundraising of over £12,000 to build the Bright Future Academy – a free school in Tamale, Ghana, whilst we both provide a quality education for over 100 children aged 2-4 and free childcare for their mothers who are Shea butter makers.

Our book was inspired by the joy we have experienced through our own friendship and our community. We always wanted to write a book explaining the power of sisterhood and female friendships as we felt a lot of books on relationships focussed mainly on fulfilment through romantic love, and ignored the beauty of platonic love, especially as rates of loneliness only rise. A lot of women struggle with maintaining friendships for the long haul and building new ones in adulthood. The book is intended to help women do just that.

How was your visit to Johannesburg and Cape Town, first instincts?

Gorgeous people, gorgeous country, gorgeous food! South Africa is incredibly welcoming to us, and has a thriving space for community and sisterhood. This is our second time – last year, we ran an international experience bringing women together from across the world to experience the beauty of South Africa together. We also hosted our first live show in Johannesburg last year, and after it sold out the sisters (that’s what we call our audience) demanded we do one in Cape Town, and with the help of Spotify Africa we delivered!

Where can we find out more about your work?

Our podcast is available on all podcast streaming platforms, and Youtube. Our book is available on Amazon, Waterstones and a number of other bookstores online (and in stores). And they should also follow us on all platforms to keep up to date with events and initiatives – @tomysisterhood.

They can also check out our website tomysisters.com which is our hub. We have a digital global membership for our community, which offers an exclusive platform to connect with other women looking for authentic, lifelong friendships.

What’s next for To My Sisters?

It can be summarised in our tag line – changing the world for women. We are going to continue to create safe spaces for women to authentically connect. We are also looking forward to building the biggest global sisterhood through our digital platform and creating more TMS community hubs across the world. We are also looking forward to expanding our philanthropic and educational arm, advocating for girls’ education, women’s healthcare and women’s safety through our podcast and other future publications.
