Counterpublics are alternative ways of making space in cities that non-architects organise in informal ways. The project centres these counterpublics as part of spatial discourse reframing informality beyond the dominant narratives that suggest it as being chaotic, dirty, dark and disorganised.
All of the images on IN-FORM-ALL are taken by and in dialogue with local practitioners embedded in their cities, constructing and nurturing counterpublics. The launch of the IN-FORM-ALL invites a gathering of voices within Johannesburg’s counterpublics and beyond, to learn about alternative economies and creative practices that are considered informal.
