The exciting sequel to the 2022-released animation comedy, Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, will be showing in cinemas across South Africa starting 19 September 2025.
In Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog, Chickenhare and his friends embark on an epic quest in search of a mysterious groundhog with the power to reverse time and save his species. His adventure takes a dangerous turn when his group discover they are not the only ones searching for this ancient power.
What is Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog about?
Having embraced his unique part-hare, part-chicken identity as what makes him special, nothing can stop Chickenhare from flying and exploring the world. Teaming up with his sidekicks Meg, a martial arts expert skunk, and Abe, a sarcastic and homely turtle, the adventuresome explorer embarks on one epic expedition after another, following in the footsteps of his adoptive father, the intrepid and admired explorer King Peter.
But an unexpected encounter with a mysterious stranger named Gina, who hides in Featherbeard and reveals herself to be his sister, radically changes Chickenhare’s plans. Chickenhare is not the only one of his kind!
Torn between his loyalty to his adoptive father and his desire to help his Harechicken fellows who are said to be threatened by a great danger, Chickenhare agrees to follow Gina in search of the only power supposedly capable of saving the Harechickens: the Groundhog-With-The-Backward-Facing-Face.
For Chickenhare, Abe, and Meg, an epic journey full of pitfalls awaits them in breathtaking new worlds. Though, Chickenhare won’t be the only one unravelling the past: Meg will cross paths with her former teammate Crolloq, now her rival and reckless enemy, who is also in pursuit of the Groundhog’s ancient power. Who will get to it first?
