The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg is hosting a four-day African Feminisms Gathering at the end of September 2025, uniting thinkers and creatives to explore justice, power shifts, and collective strategies for change in Africa.
In the lead-up to the Gathering, the institute will open a compelling exhibition titled Women*s Rights – A Tapestry of Perspectives on 12 September 2025. Here’s what you need to know.

The opening of Women*s Rights – A Tapestry of Perspectives
Join for the official opening of Women*s rights – A tapestry of perspectives exhibition presented as part of the project African Feminisms – Rights, Representation, Resources.
Featuring new digital works by four selected artists alongside the House of African Feminisms (HoAF) display, the exhibition explores the theme of “Rights” through powerful feminist perspectives from across Africa and the diaspora. These works reflect on the legal, social, political, and cultural dimensions of women*s rights, offering bold artistic responses to lived experiences, resistance, and feminist imagination.
This exhibition marks one of the first events of the African Feminisms Gathering, taking place at the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg from 25 to 28 September 2025.
Join in celebrating these vital contributions by Asia Clarke (Canada/Ghana), Diane Kaneza (Burundi), Fayo Said (The Netherlands/ Ethiopia) and Irene A’mosi (Angola) to feminist artistic practice and dialogue.
