Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary is a forever retirement home for abused donkeys where they can live out their lives in peace while being frequently visited by animal and nature lovers.
The Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary, set on Schrikkloof Private Nature Reserve, tends to 93 loving donkeys, most of which have been rescued from illegal skin trade and slaughter. There are over 44 million donkeys worldwide and due to a combination of lack of education and people’s need to survive and ensure their families are fed and sheltered, so many donkeys are subjected to neglect – and often left to die.
Visitors to the haven are able to interact with these gentle, intelligent creatures. Kids can spend time with the donkeys and pet, brush or even feed them healthy donkey treats available for purchase from the sanctuary. There is a tuckshop on site with snacks and drinks for sale.
Rest Ur Ass hosts regular market days offering craft stalls as well as an open day to adopt a donkey. The sanctuary is reliant on funds from the public to care for and feed the donkeys every day. A sponsorship gets an adoption certificate with a special donkey’s name on.
