Bookings are now open for African Insight Academy’s Wildlife Adventure summer camp running from 8 to 12 December 2023 in partnership with Ezemvelo Nature Reserve. Do you have a teen that loves nature and being outdoors, or just looking for ways to get them off screens over the holiday break?
This fun and engaging camp in Gauteng offers a 5-day experience for teenagers aged 14 to 18 in a safe environment. African Insight Academy’s camps offer loads of fun whilst also getting a great learning experience for several life skills that young adults will hold onto for good. Students have the opportunity to not only learn and experience nature first-hand but also make new friends along the way, create life-long memories, and develop a passion for wildlife and conservation.
What’s on African Insight Academy’s summer camp itinerary?
One of the biggest perks of the camp is the stunning opportunity for your teen to try a range of exciting activities and excursions in a safe environment. There’s an epic lineup of things to do while developing essential life skills. See the full itinerary here.
Expert facilitators will guide educational bushwalks and dive into geology, geography, biology, ecology, and the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Game drives run during the day and night to help observe and learn all about animal behaviour. Students can develop their bush skills with sessions covering safety and survival in the wild, tracking tips, the medicinal and traditional uses of plants, and much more.
African Insight Academy’s summer camp is also planning a lineup of great hands-on projects and conservation services for teens to get stuck into that help manage the conservation or wildlife of the reserve, radio tracking, and trail cameras to monitor wildlife.
Experience nature close-up and personal with a sleepout at our dedicated safe sleep-out location. As a teambuilding initiative, students take turns keeping watch throughout the night.
Where will the camp be hosted?
Meru Camp is on Ezemvelo Nature Reserve near Bronkhorstpruit which is just 1.5 hours from Johannesburg and 1 hour from Pretoria.
