Black Coffee makes history with BET award

Black CoffeeDJ Black Coffee has become the first South African to make his mark on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards, where he accepted an award at the event in Los Angeles.

The KwaZulu-Natal-born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, known as Black Coffee, was nominated along with two other South African artists, Cassper Nyovest and AKA, for Best International Act Africa, with Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Serge Beynaud (Côte d’Ivoire), MzVee (Ghana) and Wizkid (Nigeria) in the contest.

With such tremendous outpouring of love and support he has received from South African fans, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal have called on people in the province to give him a hero’s welcome when he lands back home in Durban.

President Zuma said Black Coffee’s victory has pinned South Africa on the international map. “We are proud that he is now recognised as one of the world’s best music producers… His success serves as an inspiration to young upcoming musicians…”
