Blocks & Hue are bringing the traditional art of block printing to art-lovers and curious minds alike with their monthly, hands-on, block printing workshops. Hosted three to four times per month in Johannesburg, these three-hour workshops run from 10am to 1pm and are designed to be both inspiring and accessible with no prior experience needed. Here’s what you need to know.

How the workshops work
Guests are guided through the beautiful process of block printing using over 200 handcrafted Indian block stamps and a wide range of vibrant, non-toxic paints. Participants create their own custom-printed piece to take home while learning a timeless textile art form in a warm and welcoming space.
Included in the booking price is full use of over the 200 handcrafted Indian block stamps, access to a wide range of vibrant paint colours, expert step-by-step guidance, a light snack and a drink.
On the day of the workshop, guests can choose from a curated selection of fabric items available for purchase to print on, including homeware and lifestyle pieces such as aprons, pillowcases, table runner, serviettes, place mats, dish towels and baby bibs. Guests are also welcome to bring their own item to print on, but the items must be 100% cotton.
Continue the craft at home
For those who fall in love with the process, Blocks & Hue also offers DIY block printing kits, individual stamps and paints, allowing guests to continue creating at home. The kits are perfect for gifting, creative weekends or anyone wanting to explore block printing at their own pace.
A base kit starts from R400, but you are free to build your own kit with optional extras at added costs. Buy your own kit here.
