Castle Lager is Planning the World’s Biggest Braai in Vilakazi Street

This Heritage Day, Castle Lager and Big Save are setting the fire alight for a truly historic World’s Biggest Braai event on 24 September 2025. The 130-year-old South African beer brand is bringing the nation together for a record-breaking attempt that celebrates more than just meat and flame. Here’s what you need to know.

What to expect at the world’s biggest braai

Soweto’s Vilakazi Street is rich with legacy and energy, was the perfect place to host a small build-up to the braai event coming soon. Castle Lager presented the Grillboard — half billboard, half braai — which quickly drew curious eyes as aroma of boerewors filled the air. Locals were invited to grab a free boerewors roll and scan the QR code in to join the mission.
