Ground the Venue is bringing back the much-awaited Ground CRU Winter Edition wine tasting experience on 13 and 14 July 2024. This wine-tasting event in Johannesburg is set in the countryside and famously shines a light on refined wines from esteemed Cape wineries.
Sample exquisite flavours of both new and rare vintages, taste comforting food from local vendors and unwind in tranquil surrounds with family and friends while live bands set the mood.
Here are the visiting Cape wine farms to look forward to
Grand CRU Winter Edition is bringing together respected wines from both popular and underrated wine regions in the Cape to really hone in on diverse flavour profiles. Special cellar door rates are also on offer for wine sales for the day.
Wine lovers will appreciate the premium offerings from Franschhoek Valley such as Boschendal, Backsberg, Old Road Wine Co., Holden Manz and Nanola.
Taste the latest from vineyards in the Stellenbosch wine route including Jordan Wines, Simonsig and Le Chant Wines, as well as Vergelegen in Somerset West. The scenic Paarl Valley brings Perdeberg, Khulu Fine Wine and Vondeling.
Guests will also get the chance to taste how the nautical air and soil make Cape Coastal wines like Strandveld and Fryer’s Cove so unique. Further wine labels to taste at the event include Wildekrans, Haus, and Ultimate Provence.
What to eat at Ground CRU Winter Edition
There will once again be a range of great eats and an opportunity to make your own casual picnic on the large lawn space with great food vendors confirmed. The crew from The Filthy Moustache will serve up their top-tier street food, tuck into freshly made large pan paella from Don Paella, gourmet sarmies from King Arabic Sandwiches, and seafood served Let’s Sea.
You cannot go wrong with fresh oysters, perhaps with a glass of bubbles or two. And the Gound the Venue team will also be in attendance with their buttermilk chicken burgers, loaded fries, prego rolls and so much more.
Do note that no food and beverages may be brought to the event.

The event is child-friendly and entry fees for kids are priced at R100pp, while under 3-year olds enter free. There will be a designated kids’ area where the little ones can hop on jumping castles, enjoy the painting station, try their hand at ceramic painting, and do pony rides.
