5 Reasons to spend the day at Cattle & Cork

Meet actual cattle farmers and taste South Africa’s distinctive beef breeds
At the heart of the festival is a guided beef tasting showcasing five exceptional South African producers. Guests will sample 50g tastings from heritage and premium breeds, each offering its own unique flavour profile.
Look forward to tasting beef from:
- Belted Galloway – a slow-growing heritage breed that produces lean, nutrient-dense meat with lower saturated fat and higher Omega-3 content
- Bonsmara – the breed’s docile temperament also contributes to better meat quality by reducing stress, which can negatively impact meat characteristics
- Wagyu by Protea Reserve
- Afrikaner – the oldest indigenous breed in South Africa, Afrikaner Beef is renowned for its rich flavour, fine texture, and exceptional adaptability to the country’s natural grazing landscapes
- Shorthorn – Shorthorn beef is the mother of our indigenous breeds and is known for its excellent marbling, tenderness, and flavour, resulting in a high-quality meat
Each tasting highlights the different farming methods, genetics and grazing environments that contribute to the diversity of South African beef.

Some of the Cape’s most respected wine estates will host tastings
Your ticket includes curated tastings from 10 acclaimed South African wine farms, complete with your own tasting glass to use throughout the day. Participating wineries include Spier and Boschendal. Kleine Zalze, De Krans, Bosman Family Vineyards, Stettyn, Montpellier, Wildekrans, Brampton Wines, Villiersdorp Wines, and Valdo. Whether you favour crisp whites, elegant reds or full-bodied blends, there’s plenty to discover between tastings.

Learn more about the story around South African beef farming
More than a food festival, Cattle & Cork is really about honouring the people behind the produce. Visitors can learn about heritage cattle breeds, sustainable farming practices and the work of local producers who continue to champion ethical, grass-fed farming across South Africa. It’s an opportunity to better understand where your food comes from while meeting the farmers and producers responsible for bringing it to the table.

It’s your chance for a wholesome escape with the entire family
Located at the picturesque Galloway Gardens in Magaliesburg, the festival offers the perfect excuse to leave the city behind. Expect open gardens, countryside views, crackling fires, gourmet food vendors, a craft beer and gin bar, premium wine and relaxed country hospitality.
The dress code embraces the setting too. Think linen shirts, boots, flowy dresses, denim and earthy tones that feel right at home among the gardens and rolling landscapes.

Live music performances set against the countryside
The soundtrack for the day comes courtesy of two much-loved South African artists. Pretoria folk favourites Georgetown bring their signature blend of folk, Americana and bluegrass-inspired sounds, while singer-songwriter Pieter Erasmus keeps the atmosphere lively with his powerful vocals and crowd-pleasing set. Bring a jacket, settle into the gardens and enjoy live music throughout the afternoon.
