The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is hosting another exciting edition of Fête de la Musique Joburg, and this 2026, the festival is platforming their mission across three cities.
The programme begins in Cape Town, before continuing in Pretoria on Saturday, 13 June and ending in Johannesburg on Saturday, 20 June at Victoria Yards.
This cultural and music event is free to join, and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. You can look forward to an electrifying array of talent spanning established icons and emerging artists. Here’s what you need to know.

About Fête de la Musique Joburg
Created in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique is now celebrated in more than 100 countries, encouraging musicians of all levels to perform in public spaces and offering free concerts to the public.
Introduced in Johannesburg 15 years ago, the event provides a platform for emerging artists while presenting established performers across a range of musical styles. Previous editions have featured Msaki, BCUC, Samthing Soweto, Vaudou Game, Nakhane, SunEl Musician and Bongeziwe Mabandla, among others.
The 2026 edition is organised by IFAS and co-produced by Bassline, with the support of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa.

Open call for music artists, poets and DJs to join Fête de la Musique Joburg
IFAS is extending an invitation to musicians, bands, DJs, and poets in Johannesburg to apply for the opportunity to perform at the Fête de la Musique Joburg music festival. The festival provides a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their talent, connect with wider audiences, and be part of an international celebration of music and creativity.
Two artists or bands will be selected to perform in Pretoria, and all other selected applicants will take part in the Johannesburg programme.
Applications will be accepted under the following conditions:
- Applications open on 12 March 2026 and close on 14 April 2026, or earlier if 300 applications are received.
- To apply, artists must complete the application form and send a WeTransfer file with the required materials to [email protected].
Applicants must:
- Be available to perform live in Pretoria on 13 June and in Johannesburg on 20 June 2026.
- Present a 45-minute live set and demonstrate the ability to engage a public audience.
- Attend compulsory professional workshops in Johannesburg on 18 and 19 June 2026.
Successful applicants will receive an artist fee of R6000 for music bands, R4000 for DJs and R1000 for poets. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Only selected applicants will be contacted.
