Film Screening: Kannawoniwasein! is a German Children’s Film with Heart

Join the Goethe-Institut South Africa for a screening of the award-winning German children’s film Kannawoniwasein! (2023) on Friday, 6 June 2025. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Kannawoniwasein! all about?

This heartwarming and adventurous story follows ten-year-old Finn, who is traveling alone by train to Berlin to visit his mother and her new partner for his birthday. 

When his backpack and ticket are stolen, Finn is forced off the train and handed over to the police by a skeptical conductor. But on the way to the station, he seizes a chance to escape and teams up with the spirited Jola. Together, they embark on a wild journey to the sea—encountering a gang of bikers, a real wolf, and plenty of surprises along the way. 

The film is being screened in German with English subtitles.

More about the Goethe-Institut
