Habitat for Humanity South Africa are once again striving to uplift local communities, this time at Orange Farm in Gauteng.

Orange Farm is located 45 kilometres southwest of Johannesburg. While the community faces significant socio-economic challenges, local residents are mobilising together to bring about a better future.

The Ext. 6 community, in partnership with Habitat, have identified a spectrum of needs that are critical to improving their quality of life.

Together with the community, Habitat identified several vulnerable families who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to improve their living situations themselves. Plans are in place to do critical repairs, and make homes where disabled families live wheelchair friendly.

Secondly, teams will be finishing the renovation of Isiboniso Combined School to create a safer, healthier and more supportive learning environment.

Habitat have also been able to secure a fully stocked container library from the USA which will they will be installing into the school during this build. The aim is to ask everyone working on the build to please bring a book along with them that they can donate to the library to keep it fully stocked and updated for many years to come.

In addition to all this, they will also be undertaking community projects to improve their overall living conditions. The build is set to take place from 7 to 11 November 2016.
