The Joburg Contemporary Art Foundation (JCAF) showcases their latest exhibition that is divided into three worlds titled, ‘Contemporary Female Identities in the Global South’.
The exhibition is the first of three instalments featuring Bharti Kher, Nandipha Mntambo, Wangechi Mutu, Shirin Neshat, Berni Searle. The Five artists explore multiple constructions of female identities and critical themes, which are embedded in the Global South. The artwork display shifts from animal-human hybrid figures to various representations of identity and belief.
The virtual tour is available on the JCAF website.
Arjun Appadurai is the Goddard Professor in Media, Culture and Communication at New York University, presents his studies surrounding the Global South theme as well. The lecture is available on the JSAC website during the launch of the JSAC last year. Appadurai shares his perspectives in ‘The Planet, the Universe and the Museum: Territories of the Imperial Imagination’.
The JCAF offers a platform for critical discourses both visually and through analysis, creating technological exhibition practices and extensive research.
