Johannesburg artist wins FNB Art Prize

Nolan Oswald DennisJohannesburg-based artist Nolan Oswald Dennis has been announced as the 2016 winner of the coveted FNB Art Prize. His R100,000 win was announced by the FNB Art Fair on Thursday afternoon.

“It forces you to reflect,” said Dennis. “To think about what you have done and it acts as a placemarker for what is to come.”

Represented by the Goodman Gallery, Dennis joins a prestigious list of winners since the launch of the FNB Art Prize in 2011, and will be showcasing his work in a dedicated space at the FNB Joburg Art Fair.

This year, the fair features 80 exhibitions in six categories, including contemporary and modern art, special projects and gallery solo exhibitions, and is set to run from 9 to 11 September 2016 at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Over the years, the FNB Art Prize has not only celebrated the work of shining South African artists, but has also been awarded to ground breaking artists from around the African continent. This has allowed both the Fair and the FNB Art Prize to enhance a creative dialogue within the growing contemporary African art markets.
