Naked Coffee and Kitchen Bar is a popular gourmet deli and coffee concept, and pretty much a Jozi institution for coffee lovers. With branches in Morningside Shopping Centre, Sandton City, and another nestled amongst stylish art and luxury supercars in the posh Melrose Arch Boulevard, each venue exudes comfort, class, and an all-around trendy mood. 

But there’s more than meets the eye with this specialist coffee shop and eatery launched 5 years ago, and still going strong. Founders Shaun Els and Victor Barbosa positioned the space as part of a new breed of artisanal coffee shops that are serious about the art of quality coffeemaking.

No shortcuts or cutting corners – the team takes it up a notch by investing in a small-batch, single-origin coffee bean roasted by hand to define their brew. Tried and tested techniques and equipment are also used to further perfect a cup of coffee.

If you’re stopping by for breakfast, you’ll find all the faves such as gourmet breakfast bowls, smashed avo toast, and a rösti stack with bacon, avo and egg on the newly unveiled menu. A creative selection of salads and burger options from tender steak fillets, crayfish, and the plant-based Beyond Burger is on the cards for brunch or late lunch. Don’t leave without trying some of the fresh bakes or the canelé, which is a small French-style pastry flavored with rum and vanilla with a soft and tender custard center and a dark, thick caramelized crust.
