The annual Parkview Potjiekos competition by Nicarela Charity is more than just a cooking event. It’s a celebration of community, heritage and creativity in a pot, and the 2025 edition is happening on Sunday, 27 July. They’re promising a day brimming with rich flavours, community warmth and heartfelt generosity.
This cherished annual event isn’t just about food—though the potjiekos alone is worth the trip—it’s about coming together to support causes that matter. From exciting stalls and tasty dishes to children’s activities and live entertainment, there’s something for everyone. Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

Here’s how to enter
Got a winning potjie recipe? Gather your team of four to eight cooks and join the competition. Entry costs R400 per team and includes access to pot sizes ranging from size 9 to size 20. It’s not just about the taste—though that’s key.
Judges will also assess stall presentation and overall creativity, so let your imagination run wild. Winning earns you the title of 2025 Potjiekos Champion and possibly Best Decorated Stall, too. Spots fill fast, so don’t wait too long to register. It’s a chance to showcase your skills and contribute to a good cause.

What to expect on the day
By midday, the air will be rich with the aroma of slow-cooked potjiekos bubbling in cast iron pots. Around 40 teams will be preparing their signature recipes, each offering a unique twist on this traditional South African favourite.
Whether you’re joining the potjiekos competition to taste a meaty stew or a hearty vegetarian mix, you’ll find something that hits the spot. Every dish is served with either rice or pap. Children will love the dedicated kids’ zone, packed with fun games and activities. And the music never stops. Live entertainment runs throughout the day, making it a lively, inclusive event for all ages.
