This year, Joburg Zoo is ringing in the new season with a fabulous Spring to Zoo Life Concert on Sunday, 29 September. This live music event is hosted by Joburg City Theatres and promises a great family-friendly atmosphere set in nature’s beauty. Enjoy a day filled with live music with a mix of genres, a chance to explore the zoo, and fun play opportunities for the little ones. Here’s what you can look forward to:

The full artist lineup at Spring to Zoo Life Concert 2024

Get ready to groove to sensational live performances from a stellar lineup of local artists. Listen to the latest tracks from Matthew Mole, who released Wake Up, It’s Morning in 2023, and watch Shekhinah perform her latest single Steady ahead of her new album release later this year among others.

Included in the gig lineup is Joburg icon Tamara Dey taking the stage for vibey dance tunes, Locnville’s signature electro hop beats, and Vin Deysel spinning live sets to get the summer feels going.

The showlist promises a dynamic soundtrack to round out your day at the zoo. Performances run from 11am to 4pm.

Things to do with kids at Spring to Zoo Life 2024

The Spring to Zoo Life Concert is not just about music, it’s also a full-blown festival of family fun. Head to the dedicated Kiddies play Area offering a variety of activities designed to keep the kids engaged. Plus there’s also a chance to win prizes on the day.

The play area and all activities are monitored by childminders and security personnel. Below are some of the fun and adventurous things to do for kids at the event:

  • Soft Play Area: A cosy spot for children under 5
  • Space Adventure Jumping Castle: Hop on a thrilling inflatable structure for aspiring astronauts
  • Jumping Castle: A bouncy attraction for younger children
  • Parachute Rides: A 10m x 10m parachute adventure
  • Bungee Stations: Pure adrenaline at four exciting bungee stations
  • Carnival Stalls: Red and White stalls featuring various kiddie games
  • Creative Corners: Sand art, crafts, mask-making, face painting, and airbrush tattoos
  • Magic Show

Make some time to see what’s on at Joburg Zoo

The Johannesburg Zoo covers 55 hectares of land and was founded in 1904. Today the zoo houses over 320 species of animals and is internationally accredited and highly respected for its practices of maintaining a high standard of animal welfare, and physical and psychological well-being of all its animal guests.

A number of educational tours and exhibitions can be tried such as the Reptile House where you can see the Green Mamba, Poffadder and other creepy crawlies up close. The zoo is committed to playing an important role in conservation projects for indigenous and worldwide endangered animals.

Need to know before you go

Parking is available at the main entrance of Upper Park with additional parking at Saxonworld Primary School. Both parking areas are secure and free for event attendees.

Cost: R350pp for adults, R170pp for pensioners, and R70pp for kids under 12yrs. Book via Webtickets.
