The Africa in Frame Photo Awards – a new regional photography initiative presented by Sony Middle East and Africa – celebrates Africa’s emerging visual storytellers and gives photographers across the continent a dedicated platform to showcase their work.
The competition represents the first standalone photography initiative of its kind in the region, bringing together creative talent from across Africa. Entries are open from 1 October to 31 December 2026.

How it works
Photographers and content creators are invited to capture the people, places, cultures and moments that define contemporary Africa. From the continent’s landscapes and wildlife to its fashion, sport, weddings and cultural celebrations, the competition aims to showcase the breadth of Africa’s visual identity through the eyes of those who live and create within it.
Entries are judged across three categories:
- Wild Africa: Wildlife, conservation and landscape photography.
- African Style and Spirit: Photography celebrating African fashion, sport and contemporary identity.
- Ceremony and Celebration: Weddings and cultural celebrations that capture the people, traditions and moments that bring communities together.
The Africa in Frame Photo Awards will announce three winners
The judging process takes place following the close of entries, with three winners announced during mid-February 2027.
Each winner receives a Sony á7R VI (which retails at nearly R100 000) with the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens, giving emerging photographers the opportunity to further develop their craft with Sony’s professional imaging technology.
