The Northgate Road Race: Get in on the Running Action this July

Joburgers, it’s time to lace up once again as the Northgate Road Race returns to Northgate Shopping Centre, better than ever, on Sunday, 20 July 2025. Read on to find out all the race information and how to book your place for this annual road race favourite.

What to expect from the Northgate Road Race

Whether you’re chasing a new personal best or just in it for the vibe, this community favourite promises great energy, scenic routes, and post-run fun.

Organised by the Roodepoort Athletics Club and made possible by Northgate Shopping Centre, the Road Race is open to all. Participants can either partake in a 10km race or 5km run/walk, regardless of age.

Registered athletes for the 10km event must be a member of a club affiliated to ASA (Athletics South Africa) and wear club colours and two 2025 licence numbers (back and front). If you are running the 10km race and are not registered to an athletics club, you will be required to pay an additional fee of R60 for a temporary licence.

While everyone will participate together, the first-place prize giving is divided among the top finishers in the various age categories. The age categories include the Open category, Veterans (aged 40-49), Masters (aged 50-59), Grandmasters (aged 60-69), Great Grandmasters (aged 70+), and Juniors.

Finish among the first few and win up to R800 in cash at the prize giving! Those who don’t get a top three finish won’t go home empty-handed either, as all participants who complete either race will receive a medal.

Race number collection, race times, and entry costs

Entrants can collect their race number pack on Friday, 18 July from 5pm to 7pm and on Saturday, 19 July from 9am to 3pm at entrance 4 of the Northgate Shopping Centre.

A limited number of t-shirts will be available for purchase through the online entry system only; no shirts can be purchased with a manual entry. Pre-entries close on Sunday, 13 July.

Cost: R150pp (10km), R80pp (5km). Grandmaster entry fee is R70pp for the 10km and R60pp for the 5km race. R60 for a temp. licence | Enter online
