Recitals at Glenshiel are intimate chamber performances in a heritage setting with a mix of local and international artists and programmes that go beyond standard concert experiences. On selected Sundays, some of the most eclectic names in classical music in South Africa and beyond take over the historic halls of Glenshiel for an afternoon of fine music:

June 2026: Intimations, with Francesca Khalifa
For the first time, Italian-Egyptian pianist Francesca Khalifa brings her acclaimed artistry to South Africa. Johannesburg audiences will have a rare opportunity to experience her in an intimate Recitals at Glenshiel on Sunday, 14 June. Based in New York City, Khalifa has built a reputation as a compelling interpreter of classical masterworks, and her programme, Intimations, promises an evening of emotional depth and virtuosity set against the historic surroundings of Glenshiel.
The recital moves across centuries and musical styles, opening with Busoni’s dramatic piano reimagining of Bach’s Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme and selections from Bach’s elegant Partita No.1. Haydn’s Piano Sonata in C minor introduces moments of restraint and intensity, while Schumann’s expansive Fantasy Op.17 unfolds with sweeping Romantic emotion.
This Recitals at Glenshiel programme concludes with Saint-Saëns and Liszt’s Danse macabre, a vivid and technically dazzling work inspired by the legend of Death summoning spirits to dance beneath the moonlight.
