The Basketball Africa League (BAL) will be hosting the epic fifth season’s Playoffs and Finals at SunBet Arena in Pretoria from 6 to 14 June 2025. After a gruelling series of games that featured some of the top-tier talent on the continent, the excitement and anticipation will culminate right here in Mzansi. Ticket sales are now open for the seeding and single-elimination quarterfinal games. Here’s what you need to know.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is a professional basketball league which launched in 2020. It was established through a partnership between the NBA and FIBA, and BAL is the first NBA-affiliated league outside North America. It features top clubs from across Africa, competing to crown the continent’s best.

Since its inception, the BAL has significantly boosted basketball’s popularity in Africa. It has created opportunities for players, coaches and fans. Young talent now sees a clearer path to professional success. The league also supports infrastructure and youth development. In 2025, the BAL enters its fifth season, showcasing elite competition and expanded reach. This milestone marks growing success and a stronger foundation for African basketball’s future.

Who are the participating teams

Made by Basketball (MBB) represents South Africa and makes their debut at the Basketball Africa League this year. The edge is their coach, the 1986 NBA champion Sam Vincent. The American coach holds a steady record of impressive credits, including a costing stint for the Charlotte Bobcats, the Nigerian National Basketball team at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and the Dallas Mavericks.

MBB will partake in the Nile Conference group phase running from 17 to 25 May 2025 at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. Newcomers Al Ahli Tripoli from Libya and Nairobi City Thunder from Kenya, as well as the two-time BAL participant and home team Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR: Rwanda), will also join this qualifier. Only three playoff slots will be decided following the Nile Conference games in Kigali.

The African teams that already qualify for the the BAL Playoffs and Finals are Al-Ittihad (Egypt, 6-0), Rivers Hoopers (Nigeria, 4-2), US Monastir (Tunisia, 4-2), Petro de Luanda  (Angola, 3-3), and Kriol Star (Cape Verde, 3-3).

How to book tickets to the Basketball Africa League Playoffs and Finals

Fans can enjoy a 10% discount when purchasing 10 or more tickets for the Playoffs and Finals by emailing [email protected]. Fans who purchase tickets will also have free access to the BAL Fan Zone at the arena.
