SINN Johannesburg is a new restaurant in Sandton where a fusion of Italian and South African cuisine meets under the watchful eye of celebrated chef, Enrico Persegani. Chef Enrico first visited South Africa in 2023 and familiarised himself with the country’s food culture before bringing his vision for SINN to life.
Think bold flavours, striking design, and immersive visuals that come together for a sensory experience. The atmosphere is ultra-modern, moody, and with a grungy-fashion edge, which means it’s perfect for dress-up date nights in Sandton.
“The name itself,” says Chef Enrico, “comes from the feeling of something being so good, it’s almost sinful.” In Italy, this sentiment extends to the pleasure of a perfect meal, the finest wines, and the luxury of silks that feel almost too decadent. The final “N” in SINN is a tribute to the team who helped create it, adding a layer of meaning to a name that’s bound to catch attention.
What’s on the menu at SINN Johannesburg
For the menu offering, Chef Enrico harnessed a personal touch with the Antipasti selection by referencing childhood memories of meals prepared by his grandmother for the fifteen dishes. Each creation toes an elegant line between tradition and innovation. Think a Umami bone marrow mousse with Biltong butter, where the chef adds a South African edge to his Italy’s culture around cured meats.
Salads on the menu are plated with a touch of immersive drama and served in a warm, wood-fired dough basket. The concept is rooted in the Italian custom of “Scarpetta,” or dipping bread to soak up every last drop of flavour.
For those unsure of what to choose, the restaurant’s handmade pasta offering is bound to impress. Much like many of the respected Italian restaurants in Johannesburg, SINN creates their pasta from scratch using only the finest ingredients to bring a refined depth of flavour to every dish. The pesto pasta is a prime example, with fresh spinach in the dough, basil for the pesto, and a twist of pecorino romano, sourced straight from Italy.
The rest of the menu at SINN Johannesburg is accentuated by gourmet pizza and a range of Wagyu steaks that are marinated and grilled over dry wood. Once you’ve finished your mains, return to the menu for a short but incredibly sharp serving of desserts such as a Negoni-infused pannacotta and a classic Tiramisu among others.
