Pitso Ya Kalaneng Festival 2026

The flagship Pitso Ya Kalaneng 2026 Festival returns to Wits. From 2 to 7 February, expect a bold, high-energy programme of new theatre, dance and music under the theme “A Call to the Theatre.”

The 2026 festival carries the hashtag #TukoHapa (Swahili for “We Are Here”) as a declaration of arrival, voice, and creative visibility.

Across six days, audiences can expect sharp satire, ritualistic storytelling, surrealism, political drama, physical theatre, and live performance, with emerging voices and daring work staged across the Wits Main Theatre, Amphitheatre, Downstairs Theatre, Nunnery, Space Frame (Education Campus) and the Mezzanine.

Intersections: Bill Ainslie and the Johannesburg Art Foundation is an exhibition at Wits Art Museum is curated by Wilhelm van Rensburg, Senior Art Specialist and Head Curator at Strauss & Co, and Kagiso Pat Mautloa, artist and Johannesburg Art Foundation affiliate, that celebrates the legacy of influential artist Bill Ainslie and the equally influential foundation that he established.

Paintings by this visionary artist have been installed alongside works by many Johannesburg Art Foundation affiliates to explore ideas about freedom, abstraction, and personal voice. Artworks have been selected from Wits Art Museum’s holdings and supplemented by strategic loans to create an immersive exhibition that underscores the enduring impact of Ainslie’s vision and those who stood with him.

Cats the Musical in Joburg | What's on in Joburg

The 2026 edition of the showcase is hosted by 2025 Comedian of the Year, Celeste Ntuli. 20 newcomer comedians get five minutes each on stage to present their material to a live audience. Pirates 21k | What's on in Joburg

Pirates 21K

Also known as “Joburg’s Toughest Half”, the Pirates 21k is – as the name suggests – has become a must-do event on Gauteng’s annual race calendar. Powered by Medshield, it draws thousands of participants to take on the challenge of a popular route that peaks over the Northcliff Hill.

Over 4000 athletes go Over The Mountain on the famous route over Northcliff Hill for bragging rights, a medal for all finishers, and t-shirts (and goody bag) for first 2000 entrants. Many try but few succeed which makes crossing the finish line as a ‘King or Queen of the Mountain’ all the more rewarding.

This relaxed and creative workshop allows each participant to decorate two ready-made trinket dishes using UV resin, layering beautiful details to create a one-of-a-kind piece perfect for holding jewellery and keepsakes.

Choose from various trinket dish shapes (including one heart shaped design each for Valentine’s) and decorate the inside using a curated selection of pressed flowers, beads, pearls, shells, papers, tiny treasures and words, etc. Once the design is complete, seal it with the final layers of UV resin, giving it a smooth, glossy finish that locks everything in beautifully.
