Pitso Ya Kalaneng Festival 2026
The flagship Pitso Ya Kalaneng 2026 Festival returns to Wits. From 2 to 7 February, expect a bold, high-energy programme of new theatre, dance and music under the theme “A Call to the Theatre.”
The 2026 festival carries the hashtag #TukoHapa (Swahili for “We Are Here”) as a declaration of arrival, voice, and creative visibility.
Across six days, audiences can expect sharp satire, ritualistic storytelling, surrealism, political drama, physical theatre, and live performance, with emerging voices and daring work staged across the Wits Main Theatre, Amphitheatre, Downstairs Theatre, Nunnery, Space Frame (Education Campus) and the Mezzanine.

Rendezvous Pop-Up Eid Edit
The celebrated Rendezvous Pop-Up returns to Summer Place in Hyde Park with their Eid Edit event.
Visitors to the pop-up can expect a variety of fashion, lifestyle and kids’ vendors to shop from, as well as an outdoor experience with live entertainment, food, drinks and desserts, and a kids’ corner where the kids will be watched over by The Victory Park Playschool, whilst the parents enjoy their shopping.

Wits Theatre Presents Mombelli’s Chapter 7
Local jazz innovator Carlo Mombelli partners with South African leading talents in his latest ensemble project, Chapter 7.
The Chapter 7 ensemble features acclaimed vocalist and poet Msaki, decorated pianist Kyle Shepherd, accomplished trumpeter Marcus Wyatt, and versatile drummer Jonno Sweetman, all led by bass player and composer Carlo Mombelli in a performance of new music from his forthcoming release, The World is Dancing on the Edge of a Cliff.
With each member of the project having achieved their own level of individual acclaim, this ensemble is sure to bring a fresh new level of creativity and originality to the South African jazz landscape.

Intersections: Bill Ainslie and the Johannesburg Art Foundation is an exhibition at Wits Art Museum is curated by Wilhelm van Rensburg, Senior Art Specialist and Head Curator at Strauss & Co, and Kagiso Pat Mautloa, artist and Johannesburg Art Foundation affiliate, that celebrates the legacy of influential artist Bill Ainslie and the equally influential foundation that he established.
Paintings by this visionary artist have been installed alongside works by many Johannesburg Art Foundation affiliates to explore ideas about freedom, abstraction, and personal voice. CATS

Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase
The Savanna Newcomer Comedy Showcase is an opportunity for newcomers in comedy to battle it out and show what they’re really made of for an opportunity to be named this year’s Savanna Newcomer at the 13th annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards.
The 2026 edition of the showcase is hosted by 2025 Comedian of the Year, Celeste Ntuli. 20 newcomer comedians get five minutes each on stage to present their material to a live audience. Of the 20, some are shortlisted for the Savanna Newcomer Award, and those shortlisted candidates will find out who is crowned the favourite newcomer at the Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards in May.

Pirates 21K
Also known as “Joburg’s Toughest Half”, the Pirates 21k is – as the name suggests – has become a must-do event on Gauteng’s annual race calendar. Powered by Medshield, it draws thousands of participants to take on the challenge of a popular route that peaks over the Northcliff Hill.
Over 4000 athletes go Over The Mountain on the famous route over Northcliff Hill for bragging rights, a medal for all finishers, and t-shirts (and goody bag) for first 2000 entrants. Many try but few succeed which makes crossing the finish line as a ‘King or Queen of the Mountain’ all the more rewarding.

The Picnic Club @ Voortrekker Monument – Valentine’s Edition
The Picnic Club takes place at Fort Schanskop, Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria, and this time it’s a Valentine’s celebration.
Expect picnic-style food on sale (both sweet and savoury), live music, and an afternoon with good people, cold drinks, and views for days. Picture giant lawn games, live performances and the smell of delicious food sizzling on the grill drifting through the air.
The musical lineup for this special edition includes Desmond and the Tutus, Pedro Barbosa, Volk, Bloumood, and Sozlol. Bring friends, family, and good vibes along to a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience where fun meets relaxation.
The kids also get their share of fun at the Clamber Club, an on-site kids’ hangout with a dedicated, supervised play area, offering fun, active entertainment so parents can relax and enjoy the day. Guests are welcome to bring along sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, picnic blankets, and instant, analogue, or compact digital cameras.
