Embo – a programme that uses music, exhibition, and dialogue to commemorate historical icons and events – hosts an exhibition honouring Mkhulu Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe. Curated by Ms. Gcotyelwa Mashiqa, the exhibition gives viewers a glimpse into Sobukwe’s selfless contributions to South Africa and details his resilience to the brutality visited upon him.
The 2-day event includes lectures and panel discussions, and a music concert featuring the IsiXhosa-inspired music of Odwa Bongo and the sounds of Zawadi yaMungu. The only known meeting between Steve Biko and Sobukwe in Ga-Kgosi Galeshewe is the inspiration for a song by the band Iphupho L’ka Biko.
