Johannesburg’s vibrant festival scene welcomes a bold new addition this season with the launch of Theatre music festival, a shindig presented by Código 1530 Tequila. More than a celebration of sound, Theatre promises a multi-sensory journey through music, culture and design — an experience where every detail, from the venue to the visuals, is crafted with purpose.
The festival marks the official South African debut of Código 1530, Mexico’s refined small-batch tequila, known for its heritage and artisanal quality. For local music lovers, Theatre signals a new era in boutique festival culture, one defined by connection, artistry and elevated living under the open sky. Here’s what you need to know.

The Theatre Music Festival’s headline acts
Leading the charge is global electronic visionary Lane 8, performing in South Africa for the very first time. Known for his “This Never Happened” concept shows where audiences are encouraged to disconnect from their phones and fully immerse in the moment, Lane 8 is all about deeply emotional melodic house sets that blur the line between euphoria and introspection. Expect soaring soundscapes, rich textures and an atmosphere designed for shared experience and connection.
Joining him on stage are Sultan + Shepard, the Grammy-nominated Canadian duo known for their signature blend of progressive and deep house. Their emotive sound, filled with intricate layers and heartfelt vocals, has earned them global acclaim and collaborations with some of the biggest names in electronic music.

A new beat for Joburg’s festival scene
Johannesburg has long been home to a dynamic music festival culture, with its audiences embracing everything from house and amapiano to international electronic acts. Theatre Music Festival taps into this creative pulse but reimagines it through a more intimate, design-led lens — one where music meets mindful living, and the art of experience takes centre stage.
As curator Danny Figueiredo explains, “Theatre is about creating moments that linger – where music, design, and culture collide.” With Código 1530 Tequila at its heart, Theatre invites South Africans to step into a world of sophistication, rhythm and shared celebration — proof that in Joburg, the show is only just beginning.
