Father’s Day Fishing & Potjie Competition

This Father’s Day, treat the most important man in your life to a day he truly deserves. Imbabali Retreat & Venue is bringing a full day of fishing, cooking, and family fun.

Whether your dad lives for the quiet patience of casting a line or the loud, smoky glory of a bubbling potjie, this event was made for him. Nestled in the beautiful Magaliesburg countryside, Imbabali is the perfect backdrop for a laid-back but competitive day out. Bring the family, bring the rods, bring your best potjie recipe.

The competition runs across two categories: biggest catch and best potjie, with R500 up for grabs in each. Fishing is strictly catch and release.

No cooler boxes are allowed. Drinks are available from the bar on the day.

Walking and Hiking

Discover the beauty of the Magaliesburg countryside on Imbabali Retreat & Venue’s scenic hiking trails. The venue offers 2km (Hornbill Route), 3km (Eagle Route), and 8km (Impala Route) routes, each designed to suit different levels of fitness and adventure. The Hornbill Route & the Eagle Route beginner-friendly trail are mostly shaded.

The Eagle Route winds gently along the Klein Magalies River, offering peaceful views and cool forest air before continuing onto a neighbouring farm (8km Impala Route) where graceful impala roam freely. For those seeking a bit more distance, the Impala Route provides an immersive experience along the perimeter of the farm with open landscapes.

All trails are clearly marked and supported with maps and convenient QR codes to help guide your way. Nature lovers may spot a variety of wildlife, including porcupine, impala, warthog, and many bird species native to the region. Social dogs are welcome, though it’s best to keep pets on a lead for their safety and yours, as the natural environment is shared with local wildlife.

Picnic Experiences

Savour the beauty of Imbabali Retreat & Venue with a picnic for two, perfectly prepared for relaxation and indulgence. Enjoy your basket at your accommodation, beside one of our tranquil dams, near the swimming pool at The Venue, or on a peaceful walk down to the river.

Each Imbabali Picnic Basket comes complete with a blanket and two pillows, and features a delightful selection of cheeses, biscuits, and accompaniments. The venue can also prepare a children’s picnic pack with a sandwich, juice, crisps, and a sweet treat (available at an additional charge).

And for the four-legged guests, you’re welcome to add a special pup’s meal so they can share in the fun. Picnic baskets must be booked and paid for in advance.
