The Great Train Race
The Great Train Race, one of South Africa’s most unique heritage spectacles, returns to celebrate its monumental 10-year anniversary this Heritage Month.
More than 100 vintage cars, motorcycles, aircraft, and a majestic steam locomotive will take centre stage at the 10-year anniversary of the event, with a live-streamed re-enactment of the iconic 1930 race between Woolf Barnato’s Bentley Speed Six and Le Train Bleu being the main highlight. Audiences experience the rare thrill of seeing the battle between steam and combustion engine once again.

Heritage Fun Day at The Field Berry Farm
Heritage Day at The Field Berry Farm out in Walkerville is all about wholesome outdoor vibes with the family. Explore their brand-new 5km self-guided walking trail through orchards and fields, let the kids cycle through the bicycle track and obstacle course, and take part in our lively stamp rally. Bird lovers will especially enjoy spotting local birdlife along the marked route.
On the same day, the farm is hosting a special Children’s Book Fun Day, centred on their own story, Big Mama’s Raspberry Farm. Young visitors can enjoy themed crafts, treats and a joyful reading of the book.
For a more leisurely experience, book one of our prepaid farm picnics. Curated menus feature seasonal produce from our orchards, with delicious farm-to-table dishes, raspberry craft beer or cider, pomegranate juice or our signature berry juice. Picnics are set beneath shady almond trees (bring your own blanket) or, in case of rain, in our covered shed.
Please note there is no berry picking in September; the next raspberry season runs January to April 2026.

Joburg Theatre presents Dancing the Death Drill
Joburg Theatre proudly presents Dancing the Death Drill, a powerful stage adaptation of Fred Khumalo’s award-winning novel.
Set in Paris in 1958, the story begins with a shocking double murder and unfolds into the haunting tale of Pitso Motaung, a South African soldier whose life was forever changed by the tragic sinking of the SS Mendi in 1917.
Directed by James Ngcobo and adapted by Palesa Mazamisa, this moving production blends drama, music, and dance to explore forgotten histories, resilience, and the legacy of black South African soldiers in World War I.

Amahubo Symphony
The Amahubo Symphony is a powerful, immersive cultural and musical experience by Mbuso Khoza.

The 4th annual Folklore Festival
The Folklore Festival is a celebration of cultural connection and belonging through music, storytelling and heritage preservation during Heritage Month.
Alongside the musical lineup headlined by the Mahotella Queens, this festival hosts a range of kids activities such as a book fair featuring young African authors and workshops on indigenous instruments. There are also a number of stalls selling African food and crafts as part of the diverse Pan-African creative offering.
