The RMB Latitudes Art Fair

The 2026 edition of the RMB Latitudes Art Fair is bringing together artists and exhibitors from across the African continent to transform the enchanting Shepstone Gardens.

This year’s focus is on Nigeria. The theme, Oasis, reflects on the improbability of creative flourishing in unlikely places. Marking 140 years of Johannesburg – a city founded without access to a major body of water – the theme considers how creativity, like water, sustains and regenerates life in unexpected environments.

The Afro Diaspora Connection things to do in Johannesburg this May | What's On in Joburg

The Afro Diaspora Connection – Johannesburg

Now in its third year, The Afrodiaspora Connection stands as a growing and influential model for international music collaboration, one that prioritises sustainability, reciprocity, and long‑term cultural exchange over short‑term visibility.

Curated by The Dig Global, a Johannesburg‑based alternative music development agency, in partnership with Jazz re:freshed, a UK‑based jazz and alternative music organisation, and supported by the Goethe‑Institut, the project actively connects artists and creative communities across South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other European territories.

The Johannesburg / Soweto showcase is intentionally aligned with the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising, situating contemporary diasporic music practice within a broader legacy of resistance, cultural production, and spatial reclamation. This alignment reinforces the project’s commitment to history, place, and the politics of cultural exchange.

Headlining the 2026 programme are international artists Kokoroko (United Kingdom), Summer Pearl (United Kingdom), Zola Marcelle (United Kingdom) and Wayne Snow (Germany).

These artists perform alongside South African musicians including Esinam x Sibusile Xaba, a Kids Love Jazz ensemble led by Ofentse Sebula and Internet Athi.

Runners take on a 5km circular lap course through the leafy streets surrounding the sports grounds, with special lane closures along Soutpansberg Road to ensure a smooth and safe run. From 3pm the lap course is reduced to 3km.

The Virtual Catcher Car takes off 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last athlete has been caught. 100% of all donations and the entry fees go directly into spinal cord research projects.
