Organisers of CottonFGest – scheduled to take place at The Station on 26 March 2026 – confirmed the festival’s cancellation via email, adding that “the festival has come to an end.” CottonFest was first launched in February 2019 by Riky Rick, the South African rapper, producer, fashion icon, and cultural tastemaker known for his bold style and creative influence. He intentionally chose The Station in Newtown as the platform to celebrate creativity, self-expression, and collaboration within Joburg youth culture, with a high-energy lineup that spans hip-hop, amapiano, gqom, R&B, and alternative sounds. Here’s what you need to know.

A statement from the organisers
Following the initial announcement of the 2026 festival on social media earlier this year, differences among the current shareholders have led to disputes between them. After careful internal review and consideration, it has become clear that the shareholders no longer share the same long-term vision. This divergence has placed strain on operations and made it increasingly challenging to continue the festival in a manner that upholds the standards and vision set out by its sole founder, Riky Rick.
“CottonFest has always been rooted in creativity, community and cultural celebration focused on creating a platform for the youth to shine,” stated CottonFest owner and organiser Bianca Naidoo. “While we remain extremely proud of what the festival has achieved and are deeply grateful for the support it has received from our fans, partners and the artists over the years, the differences in festival’s vision and purpose among the two parties has made it clear to our family and the team, that concluding this chapter is the most realistic path forward.”
The team emphasises that this decision was made after careful consideration, and in the best interest of all parties involved, including staff, collaborators and the broader community that has supported the festival since its inception over 7 years ago.
Festival founder Riky Rick’s partner, Bianca Naidoo, together with the Makhado family, has expressed appreciation for everyone who has contributed to CottonFest’s growth and its impact on the arts and entertainment landscape and the drive to keep Riky’s legacy alive.

What’s coming up next + an update for ticket holders
Although CottonFest music festival will not continue under its existing structure, the Creative Programme, which was launched in 2025, will continue to build on the initiatives and create different opportunities for young talent throughout the year. The team remains optimistic about plans with deeper support for creative expression and looks at incorporating new and meaningful ways for the youth to be celebrated.
The email from the organisers advised that from today, 9 December 2025, current ticket holders can request their full refunds via Webtickets (under their self-help process).
