I Put My Hand On My Chest To Feel My Heartbeat is a new art exhibition at Constitution Hill that shines a spotlight on the vibrant community of Thokoza through the lens of its youth.
The showcase is curated by Of Soul & Joy (OSJ), which is an educational programme dedicated to empowering youth through photography. On show are a range of personal stories and visual narratives captured by some of the country’s most promising emerging photographers.
The series of works offers a glimpse into intimate moments and displays of creativity that tell the stories of Thokoza and its residents over a 30-year period.

My Fair Lady at Montecasino
Following the sell-out success of The Sound Of Music in the 2023/24 summer season, Pieter Toerien Productions and Cape Town Opera present Lerner & Loewe’s musical masterpiece, My Fair Lady at the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg.
My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, who receives elocution lessons from Henry Higgins, a phonetics professor, so she can pass as a lady in early twentieth-century England. Montecasino Classico
Set against the backdrop of Italian-inspired architecture lies the starting point for the Montecasino Classico – one of the biggest cycling races of the year.
The event offers 50km and 90km routes that are designed to test the limits of human endurance and strength. The route is similar to that of the famous Cradle of Humankind cycle race, but without some of the more strenuous ascents.

Musée de la bête (Museum of the Beast) art exhibition
Expand your cultural horizons with NIROX’s newest exhibition Musée de la bête by Farieda Nazier, opening this February in Johannesburg.
The exhibition is a growing body of work that explores museumification and its longstanding effects on the contemporaneous gaze. It is a series of responsive interventions, the first of which is titled On Mapping Bodily Territories and is hosted at the Sculpture Park.
It aims to trouble and (re) politicise the cartographic gaze, which is still used as a tool of violent conquest. The work comprises a three-part sculptural and video installation premised on the idea that land is inseparable from those inhabiting it; these include human and non-human entities.
