Cape Ballet Africa and Global Star Events are bringing one of the world’s most beloved ballet productions, Swan Lake, to Joburg stages, with the production set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s original composition.
Swan Lake is the pinnacle of classical ballet, having dazzled audiences for generations, elegantly using motion to tell a story of passion, devotion and betrayal. The ballet tells the story of Prince Siegfried, whose heart is captured by Odette, a princess cursed to live as a swan by day. The new production is created and performed by a 50-strong company, featuring choreography and stage direction by Georgian-born, London-based former principal ballerina with the English National Ballet, Elena Glurjidze.

Mzansi Chamber Music Collective presents the Odeion String Quartet
The Odeion String Quartet was established at the University of the Free State (UFS) in 1991 as a permanent, full-time, resident string quartet. At present, it is the only resident string quartet at a South African university.
The all-female quartet has performed to critical acclaim and will perform music by Beethoven, Feder and Päge.
The programme also includes the world premiére of a work by Motshane Pege, especially commissioned for the Odeion String Quartet by the Mzansi Chamber Music Collective.

Marcus Wyatt is a South African trumpet player, composer, arranger and bandleader who has been an influential figure in the country’s jazz landscape for over three decades. ‘Church of the Rolling Tongue’ is Marcus’ latest creative ensemble, bringing together some of South Africa’s most distinctive improvisers, composers and musical storytellers.
The evening features an all-star cast of collaborators, including bassist, composer and producer Shane Cooper, skilled bassist Romy Brauteseth, versatile musician Siya Makuzeni, jazz legend Pule, saxophonists Sisonke Xonti, and Justin Bellairs and drummer Jonno Sweetman.
